| NVIDIA nForce 730i (9300/9400) issues with Windows 7 |
|
May 15, 2009 - 1:13 AM - by freecableguy
|
So I decided to take the plunge today and upgrade my HTPC from Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 (x64) to Windows 7 Ultimate RC1 (x64) thinking that there would be no issues seeing as how I'd already had the OS on my main rig for a couple of weeks with no complaints.
Boy was I wrong.
The upgrade on the MS side was smoooooth. Unfortunately immediately following the upgrade I noticed that no matter my display settings (resolutions, refresh rate, color depth, driver version installed, etc) that there were multicolored horizontal lines flashing across my Aquos 42" LCD (connected via a SONY HDMI receiver).
With Vista x64 the sound and video worked flawlessly over a single HDMI cable connection to my receiver. Now, with Windows 7 x64 there's an interruption to the audio/video stream that causes these lines to flash every half a second in random locations at higher resolutions, and at lower resolutions the whole display just flashes in and out.
If you're going to ask was a using the latest Windows 7 drivers direct for the NVIDIA site, then the answer's yes.
One last piece of the puzzle - when I installed a discrete graphics card (a spare ASUS N9600GT MATRIX I has laying around) the problem went away entirely. Obviously the fault lies with the integrated graphics/audio on the ASUS P5N7A-VM (NVIDIA nForce 730i/9300). I was really hoping everything was going to just work. Oh, well.
If you know anything about this and/or have a fix, let me know and I'll post it here for all to see.

Why wait for the item to finally arrive in retail? Why pay tax? Why pay shipping? Why get gouged? Have you checked eBay? This guy is offering guaranteed D0-step 920's for just $299.99 out the door:
UPDATE (5/13/09)
The seller has this incredible deal on i7-920 D0's back up! HURRY!!!
http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Intel-Core-i...3A1%7C294%3A50
Additionally, I have been informed he will handle direct sales outside of eBay if the buyer would like to save an additional $10, bringing the cost to just $290.00.

| Deal of the Day - Crucial DDR3-2000 at Newegg for $215 after MIR |
|

UPDATE (10/4/2008): Back in stock! (That was fast.) Get go 'em - only 4 sets left as of 9pm PT.
UPDATE (10/3/2008): Well, looks like you guys have pounced on this. Not only is Newegg out of stock (estimated restock date is 10/7) but they've also increased the price to $295, which takes some of the fun out of the original deal. Hopefully it cools back down and these modules come in around $200/pair again.
My favorite modules, by far, are those found in the Crucial Ballistix DDR3-2000 (PC3-16000) 2x1GB memory kit. If you need DDR3 performance memory, this is it. 2GB of the best damn stuff in the world (remember, don't get too excited, we're talking memory here) for just $215 after MIR (plus shipping and whatever the state steals from you in tax)...sign me up!

| Motherboard Monitor 5 (MBM5) Core Temperature Plugin Updated! |
|
Aug 21, 2008 - 9:24 PM - by freecableguy
|
Following Benson Inkley's IDF 2008 Technical Presentation on Intel's Processor Temperature Specification we've updated our Motherboard Monitor 5 (MBM5) Core Temperature Plugin to version 1.30 as a results of some DTS Tjunction temperature changes. Actually, they haven't changed, we just didn't know exactly what they were...
You can read more about the need for this update over at AnandTech if you haven't heard the news already.
We're happy to announce that Motherboard Monitor 5, with the help of our plugin, is now the first Intel Core(TM) temperature monitor/logger to incorporate official 45nm CPU Tjunction values from Intel.
